Our head engineer at EllisDon in Toronto has been involved in this project and he said the weight of steel in this building is twice as much per square foot for one floor as a more typical building they did in Toronto. Deloitte Summit in Vancouver is half the size, but weighs twice as much per floor." Anthony El-Araj, principal at Glotman Simpson adds: "The unique architectural massing of the transi- tioning cantilevered boxes induces horizontal gravity torsional loads at the top and bottom of each four-storey stack. The central concrete core that frames the elevator banks serves the dual purpose of resisting the gravity torsion as well as the lateral transient seismic and wind induced loading." Balconies are on every fourth floor and face all directions with the rota- tions of the design. "There's nothing else like this tower when you look up from the street. Even as we were building it, every day anyone walk- ing by would stop, pull out their phone and take photos," says Close.
