"We also worked with the electrical contractors on the light level along the entrance walk- way, to avoid creating the neon airport experience," says Fong. Board form concrete was initially considered as a major decorative fea- ture surrounding the elevators, but Fong and her team ultimately used concrete tiles nine-feet high by four- feet wide, plus a co-ordinating floor tile; they were enhanced by linear cove lights, which highlight the feature fin- ish with large number graphics on each level to serve as wayfinding. In order for Ventana Construction to break ground on the project in 2019, the Coulter House was pains- takingly removed from the site and transported approximately six blocks away to a temporary location, where it underwent structural improvements. The process required 16 months of strategic planning, starting with prep- arations for the structure; temporary transportation walls were then built to add to the integrity of the struc- ture, and precise holes were cut in the foundation of the home to secure the bracing. "There were subsequent chal- lenges making the Coulter House fit in the precise desired location at HOUSS, but the entire construction process went like clockwork," says Yamamoto. For his part, Taddei says, "We're very happy with the final product and have received lots of positive feedback from our purchasers. We're excited to see how the community embraces HOUSS and how the building really comes to life when the purchasers begin to move in and use the space."
