"Every homeowner wants something unique that no one else has, but it's very hard to be unique when designing a kitchen," says Marco Corrente, VP of Unique Store Fixtures. The functionality of a kitchen and the size of appliances put some constraints on things. "A lot of times when a client wants something different, they may try too hard and mix too many details into one space." Design pros know that it's just one or two nice details that make a kitchen pop – whether a custom handle or pull, metal detailing, or cabinetry colours. In terms of hardware, matte black, brass, or gold tones are everywhere, but handleless cabinets also continue to be popular, as Blum product specialist Frank Sansalone pointed out once again this year. "People want a clean look and germ-free solutions," he says. Blum's Servo-drive and Tip-on hardware solutions allow homeowners to easily, swiftly open their cabinets and drawers. It's a reminder that hardware technology has come a long way in the past few years. Even drawers as wide as 45 inches can be kitted out with high-end fixtures for a smooth, stable full extension and soft close. "You can do just about anything with Cavupro hardware product offerings right now," says Coroy. With a continued emphasis on wellness, homeowners are implementing organization systems to reduce clutter, maximize space, and improve the functionality of their kitchens. Integrated storage and organization solutions including pull-out pantry systems, clever corner cabinet solutions, and configu- rable drawer inserts are popular inclusions when designing fully functional kitchens. The Vauth-Sagel by Häfele line of individual solutions and modular systems is one option for providing maximum storage while elevating the esthetics of cabinet interiors, while the Häfele Free family of flap fittings allow optimum accessibility and intelligent use of space. GLOW ON Light in cabinetry is no longer just an accessory added after construction. Today, light is an essential function within furniture and cabinetry to create emphasis, provide orientation, enhance functionality, and improve quality of life. Häfele LED lighting technology, for instance, is designed to integrate seamlessly within and surrounding cabinetry to provide both form and function. Discreet LED lighting within cabinet interiors illuminates their contents, providing a clear view regardless of the time of day or exterior lighting conditions; interior cabinet lighting is also a simple and impactful way to showcase collections in cabinetry with glass doors. "With more time spent at home, rooms are required to serve multiple purposes and customizable lighting solutions make it easy to change the atmosphere of a room to best suit the needs of the homeowner," says David Durand, digital marketing manager for North America, Häfele Canada Inc. With an abundance of style options and functional solutions on deck for 2021 and beyond, kitchens are primed to still be the place we want to spend all of our time… even as the world opens up again.
