L ocated at Horseshoe Bay in North Vancouver, adjacent to a marina and a nearby terminal ferry, Sewell's Land- ing is a residential waterfront devel- opment which consists of seven residential buildings of heights ranging from four to thirteen levels constructed over four levels of basement car parking. The development incorporates a large public piazza with waterfront access. Also included is a boathouse and dock plus ground floor retail to the residential buildings. Sewell's Marina along with architect Paul Merrick met with a group of Horseshoe Bay community leaders in 2009 to create a vision for the Sewell's Marina. This culminated in a partnership with Westbank and a rezoning application in May 2015. As the project developed, Westbank Projects Corp. decided to seek the services of a construc- tion management company that it knew shared the same values and would provide the resources necessary to complete a project that was not short of complexity within the agreed time frame. "We are thrilled to be a part of this landmark project. We're excited to draw upon our experi- ence constructing forward thinking residential developments and to help deliver on Westbank Project Corp.'s vision for Sewell's Landing. The industry is building higher, further, faster and with more complexity than ever before, but the values for what makes an excellent con- struction manager are still the same. That sense of pride, the ability to adapt, to meet client and user needs, to lead and to challenge. We feel that we have exhibited all of these values on Sewell's Landing and are proud of the results so far," said Garry Sangha, CEO of KCM. "Sewell's Landing is one of the most challenging projects I have had the privilege to work on. It is a large and intricate develop- ment built on the edge of the ocean. The con- struction plan includes seven large structures being built concurrently. We are faced with significant elemental conditions as well as the difficulty of scheduling supply, equipment and resources across the project. One of the most difficult aspects of this design is the vast array of exterior materials all coming together and being built in relation to each other. Rarely has a project in Greater Vancouver been designed with such complexity of building materials. The new project will extend Horseshoe Bay com- munity adding 158 new luxury homes, extend- ing the public foreshore by 400 feet," said Chris Nielsen, KCM's senior project manager for Sewell's Landing.
