SUN TOWERS I by LAURIE JONES R ising high above the Metrotown district streets in Burnaby, B.C., the Sun Tower I – a 285 unit, 42-storey mixed-use, luxury condo- minium – will play a significant role in revitalizing the area. "We purchased the land at the end of 2013 and started construction on Tower I at the end of 2017," says Leo Sun, representative for Belford Properties Ltd. "The Sun Tower will include retail, office, and residential units, and we have an exceptionally large daycare run by WonderWorld Montessori built into the complex on the third level. That floor also has space for a restaurant." He adds the exterior finish fea- tures terracotta bands of colour in orange, red, and yellow, represent- ing the building's name – Sun Tower. Adding to the height of the building is an artistic rooftop mountain-design structure, a decorative way to con- ceal equipment including a two-storey cooling-tower, and a makeup air machine that feeds fresh air into the building and pressurizes the stairwell and corridors. A variety of unit sizes are offered, from 518 square feet for one-bedroom suites, and the penthouses range from 1,723 square feet for three bed- rooms to the largest, a three-bedroom plus den at 1,907 square feet. All pent- houses have multiple outdoor private decks, the largest one being 2,440 square feet. "The interior designs include pre- mium features such as European cabinets, German appliances, and soft closing drawers and cupboard doors," says Sun. Residents will also enjoy a high-end lobby complete with a con- cierge, and the Sun Tower I offers a 60-foot lap pool, hot tub and sauna on the ground floor. "There are several amenities for residents such as a golf simulator, badminton court, a fitness and yoga room with large windows, a meeting room, party room, and a large sky garden," he explains. The amenity spaces will be shared between Tower I and the future Tower II. "This is a live, work, play tower with something for everyone," says Gwyn Vose, architect with the IBI Group. "Above the retail and restaurant levels is four floors of leased office space. The daycare on the third floor has a huge LOCATION: 4458 Beresford Street, Burnaby, B.C.
