J U N E 2 0 2 1 | 69 Sun Towers I outdoor space at the back of the build- ing for kids to play. The daycare itself is 11,850 square feet, with 6,000 square feet of outdoor play space." "Every angle from this tower has a special view – it's an amazing vista," says Peter Wheatley, senior project man- ager for Metro-Can Construction. "The residences on level seven all have ter- races, which is a larger outdoor space than most of the suites. These extend over the commercial podium. Suites from level eight up have balconies. The rooftop patio and penthouses are on level 42 and the level 40 and 41 are also penthouses. Each has two floors." Attention to detail is evident in both the commercial and residential lob- bies. "In the commercial lobby there will be mirrors around two sides of the upper half of the room," Wheatley explains. "The chandelier will have hundreds of suspended acrylic dia- monds that sparkle, lit up with high-intensity LEDs. The design is meant to look like a swoosh of a paint- brush. At one end of the lobby will be what looks like a paintbrush hanging off the wall and trailing to it will be the acrylic diamonds in the chandelier." He adds the office corridors have a special fabric ceiling with backlight- ing to make the entire ceiling glow. "A segue into the office spaces are a series of meeting rooms that are set aside for people to use. All the offices have floor-to-ceiling glass." The interior finishes of the Sun Tower residential suites continue the high-end approach. "It's prob- ably one of the nicer buildings of this nature that I've been involved with," says Wheatley. "They made choices to reflect the high-end clients with hard- wood and laminate flooring, and the lobbies will be exceptional with mar- ble, tile, and millwork panelling." He notes because the commercial, resi- dential, and amenity spaces are all tied together, they had to work across different systems to make them work together, such as fire alarms. "Another unique design for the front of this building will be precast concrete benches featuring stainless steel sculp- tures coming off of them – a gifted art piece to the City of Burnaby from Belford Properties. These will be a standout feature for people are travelling down Beresford Road," says Wheatley. A R EN D ER I N GS CO U RT E SY B EL FO R D P RO P ERT I E S LT D. Harris Rebar.indd 1 2016-11-03 1:24
