The feature stair- case uses limestone from France, the corridor floors are large format ceramic tiles from Italy, and the wall finishes feature acoustical wood pan- els from Switzerland. Todd says the biggest construction challenge – the co-ordination of mul- tiple building systems presided over by subcontractors – was overcome "by approaching each area with our subcontractors and the consultants and looking for the best solutions for installing equipment and services, and maintaining appropriate clearances for code requirements and maintenance." Baril notes that despite the com- plexities of the project, the NRC facility is coming in on schedule. "The project teams from Diamond Schmitt, Number TEN, Penn-co, Public Works and Government Services Canada, and NRC stayed well synchronized during the whole proj- ect, which provided flexibility and agility as some specific requirements where developed during the design and construction," he says. "We're very happy with the outcome."
