The towers' fritted glass bal- conies are visual echoes of the street level screens, and to further blend in with the West End's urban yet densely green environment, expansive land- scaping in the form of planters, gardens, and trees were included throughout the podium deck. "The new illuminated and acti- vated façade is set off the building face with secondary steel framing all along the cascading Davie Street frontage streetscape," Stoelting adds. ITC Construction mobilized on site in October of 2017, and project direc- tor Kerry McCormick notes that "We successfully achieved early occupancy for the parkade and commercial levels in May of 2020. For the early occu- pancy of the commercial space, we had to move one of the tower cranes from the foundation to the L3 slab so the space could be finished. This oper- ation required significant planning and co-ordination with the trades and the City of Vancouver building depart- ment. We also needed approvals to close Davie Street and temporarily remove the power lines that service the transit buses." McCormick adds, "Day-to-day construction of the towers with a fully functional commercial space below resulted in restricted access to the site. As such, co-ordination with the trades for access and deliveries was exten- sive between May of 2020 and January of 2021, when occupancy for the East Tower was achieved. Occupancy of the West Tower was achieved in November of this year." The final result is something Westbank is proud to have accomplished, their first project with partner Crombie REIT and one of the fastest lease ups in the West End's recent his- tory, fully leased in just 10 months. "Of all our projects, this is one of the fastest to fully lease up, which is remarkable considering we were in the height of the pandemic." MacDougall concludes, "Thanks to the design team and builders we were able to deliver a remarkable product to this neighbourhood and help fulfill the city's need for rental housing."
