42 | D E C E M B E R 2 0 2 1 Resilient Flooring Designers have been looking for LV T designs, other than wood and stone visuals, that can eas- ily co-ordinate with other finishes, says del Vecchio. "We believe Sonata Elements answers this need. The collection is based on foundational neutral beiges and greys, which are comple- mented with neutral tone-on-tone as well as chromatic gradient patterns. The result pro- vides unlimited flooring design options and allows designers to bring in a touch of accent colours without being too overpowering." Forbo Flooring Systems has developed a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects)-certified CPD (continuing professional development) that exam- ines the role of flooring in dementia-inclusive buildings. The Alzheimer's Society has predicted that by 2040, up to 1.6 million people will suffer from the illness. "For many years, we've worked hard to develop inclusive flooring options to help specifiers feel con- fident in creating spaces that will benefit everyone. With the help of the DSDC, we've devised this CPD to help those in the field to go one step further and gain a stronger understanding of a number of important core design principles. If you're working in the field, or just want to improve your knowledge on this sub- ject, it's not to be missed," says Donna Hannaway, care segment manager at Forbo Flooring Systems. Developed with guidance from the University of Stirling's Dementia Services Design Centre (DSDC), the CPD is perfect for anyone who specifies flooring for commercial and public buildings, or for those that have a passion for creating inclusive environments. FLOORING PROTECTION One year after its initial launch, Tarkett's Techtonic LV T polyurethane coating has proven its superior performance in new laboratory tests, as well as real- world applications. The tests confirmed that Techtonic provides 40 percent more scratch protection than the indus- try market leader, enduring greater pressure from a diamond-tipped needle without scratching or whitening. It also had 18 percent better abrasion resistance, top-of-its-class scuff guarding and formidable stain defense. "Techtonic is a protective coating unlike any other," says Adrienne Roseman, senior director, product management. "Because Techtonic doesn't include unnecessary composite materials, it offers significantly stronger defense against scratches and scratch whitening, as well as abrasions, scuffs and stains. By mixing rugged protection with a beautiful matte finish, Techtonic keeps floors looking better and lasting longer, with less maintenance." ADHESIVES For positive results during flooring installation, Mapei offers its Planiprep 4 LV T, a premixed, high- moisture-resistant, water-based, acrylic-resin-based skimcoat and embossing leveller. Resistant to high moisture and heavy rolling loads, Planiprep 4 LV T is ready to use, dries fast, and sands easily. "This product can be used on many surfaces, including ceramic and stone flooring in good condi- tion, cement-based shower pans and mud beds, and exterior-grade plywood, to name a few," say Yoanna Pergantis, marketing director, Mapei Canada. Also from Mapei is the Mapecoat, a two-compo- nent, water-based, aliphatic antislip polyurethane finish for LV T. "Mapecoat 4 LV T is a transparent pro- tective finish available in matte and semi-gloss," Pergantis explains. "It provides a non-slip finish with high resistance that works well for both residen- tial and commercial installations." Tub surrounds, shower enclosures and dry areas subject to high foot traffic are good candidates for Mapecoat. A Application of Planiprep 4 LVT.
