Kinvaro T-Slim lifter system. 36 | D E C E M B E R 2 0 2 1 Architectural Woodwork P H OTO G R A P H Y CO U RT E S Y G R A SS C A N A DA Grass Canada Inc. is part of the Grass Group, a brand that stands for top quality technical precision and progressive design; its slide and hinge systems, as well as flap systems, are distinct products that bring kitchen and cabinet designs to life. George Pavlov, Ontario sales manager for Grass Canada, says the Grass Group has had to contend with manufacturing challenges at their European manufac- turing facilities due to demand and raw material price increases, delivery delays, container shortages, and container pricing increases on a monthly bases, which in turn have caused price increases to the end user. "Still, a lot of my OEMS have experienced outrageous growth in 2021, and our new warehouse, which we opened in the spring of 2020, has hit a high of double digit growth, so we can't complain too much," he says. Additionally, Grass is busy developing new prod- ucts that will be released in 2022. "In the meantime, we're enjoying tremendous ongoing success with our lifter systems as well as our drawer systems," Pavlov says. Pavlov is referring to the Kinvaro T-Slim lifter sys- tem, the thinnest, most space efficient flap system Grass has ever developed. It combines purist aesthet- ics, a very stable construction and the art of perfect movement in an exemplary manner. The flap system blends almost invisibly into the furniture, opening up new possibilities for wall cabinets and offering furniture designers and constructors maximum flexibility. In addition to the aesthetic benefits, this minimalism also has a further advantage: the flap system requires very little space, so that the available storage space can be optimally utilised. The other product cited by Pavlov is the Nova Pro Scala, part of the Nova Pro family of double- wall drawer sides that epitomize exceptional ease of opening, outstanding running properties, minimal drawer deflection and top reliability. The Pro Scala boasts a puristic design language of striking lines, right angles and small radii for a timeless technical and functional look. Adding to the style of drawer sides is the Nova Pro Scala Crystal, the outcome of Grass subjecting the Glass add-on system to a fundamental redesign: all parts – drawer side and inset drawer fronts – are exactly matched in colour and material. In addition, the simplicity of parts and the ease construction lends itself to a very elegant product offering in which less is more and very pleasing to the eye. Finally, Claus Flemming, long-time owner of CHF Contracting in Mill Bay on Vancouver Island, reports that his company, which he has carefully developed over the past 37 years, will continue to grow under new leadership. "We sold the business in August this year to one of our general contracting clients, and we have every expectation that they will enjoy continued success," he says. "At the time of sale we had many projects on the go, 10 employees, and an 8,000 square foot shop geared towards providing customized millwork for the commercial sector." CHF is widely known for its manufacturing/ installation of custom-complex cabinetry and mill- work for mostly commercial projects such as schools, universities, credit unions, banks, retail, offices, Westin Hotel Bear Mountain, Olympic View Golf Course, plus many others. "Being a proud mem- ber of AWMAC for the past 13 years and GIS director has brought our standards and commitments to the highest level, and we're in great shape," Claus says. "I've enjoyed unprecedented years thanks to the construction boom on the Island, and an amaz- ing team, so I'm happy to pass on the reins to Chris Strong of Victoria whom has renamed CHF Trestle Millwork and maintained all staff, the same location and high standards of quality. I wish Chris and his team continued success." A umbraeng.com Engineering specialists in life safety, security and fire detection and protection.
