Granville Island
N
o visit to Vancouver is complete without a trip to Granville Island, a
pedestrian-friendly and picturesque peninsula just across the bridge
from downtown that was transformed from desolate industrial land
to an arts and culture haven in the late 1970s. For many, the big draw is
the fantastic Public Market and its food court for a bargain lunch. But the
artisan studios shouldn't be missed either: glassblowers, potters, jewellers
and textile artists can all be found.
The best way to cap off a day of exploration and shopping on Granville
Island is to stick around for a live show. Vancouver's performing arts scene
is centred on Granville Island, and with several professional and amateur
theatre and comedy companies, there are live entertainment options on any
given night.
