On the surface, it sounds like a tough question that depends on where you're travel- ling. It could be my trusty Tilley hat if I'm heading south, an electrical outlet adapter if I'm going overseas or an RFID- protected wallet to keep my credit cards safe while shop- ping in foreign lands. But no matter where I go, my answer is simple: travel insurance. There is nothing more important for a traveller to take – no matter where they go or for how long they're gone. It's the one thing we should never be without when we leave Manitoba. As you read this you may be thinking: "I'm covered by a good plan through work . . . although I'm not sure exactly what it includes" or "I never travel further than Grand Forks, so I don't need travel insurance." These are the two most common reasons people cite for not investing in this peace of mind. It's a concern because travellers may be taking an unneces- sary risk. A simple slip or fall could happen to anyone. A broken bone – even when you're just a few hours away from home – could easily cost thousands of dollars in medical bills. e good news is, just like so many things at CAA Manitoba, our insurance services are getting better and more responsive to your individual needs every day. We are introducing a new online travel insurance tool, coming in early June, so you can conveniently explore coverage options recommended by C AA experts. You can also buy trip cancellation and interruption insurance online from us. The best part is you can do this from your com- puter at home, your iPad at work and, very soon, from the airport on your smartphone moments before you board the plane. With our new online tool you can get travel insurance quickly and easily. But we under- stand insurance is still complex. That's why our knowledgeable experts are always available to answer your questions and help you find the insurance coverage that's right for you. And to continue to make insurance mat- ters accessible, we've added a new regular col- umn to this magazine. You're Covered will help you better understand some of the common questions that arise when buy- ing all kinds of insurance. e articles will touch on every- thing from travel and life insur- ance to home and property protection or personal accident coverage. While I appreciate her enthusiasm and am delighted she had fun, I must point out that perhaps the exuberance of the experience got the better of her. What caught my eye is her claim of reaching 200 miles per hour in a Mustang. Even in a 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca, the top speed would be at most 150 mph (243 kilometres per hour). I raced at Gimli Motorsports Park in the '70s and '80s, when I'd also volunteer to take spec- tators around the track in my modifi ed Honda Civic. It was a thrill for me as well to be able to provide that kind of experience to my passen- gers. Reading this article brought back those memories. It makes me happy to read how thrilled she was by the experience, and that she had such an experienced driver as Charlie Putman behind the wheel.
