Unfortunately, distracted driving is still making news headlines. Police in some provinces now say distracted driving causes even slightly more deaths than impaired driving does. CAA's own research shows texting while driving is the number one road safety concern of Canadians, topping drinking and driving, and has been for the past two years. CAA believes that texting while driving, and other forms of preventable distracted driving, should be made as socially unacceptable as drinking and driving, and the experience with impaired driving proves it can be done. We may not be able to avoid all distractions, but several are preventable, including many of the worst such as talking on a cellphone or texting. CAA and our U.S. partners at AAA are sponsoring research that is studying which distractions are most dangerous.
