speaker's corner Feast for the Eyes E njoyed reading "R ural R estaurant Revival" (Fall 2013) about the unique smalltown restaurants in Saskatchewan. I'm planning a roadtrip to enjoy some of them. –Cindy Bell, Regina Re: Your excellent article, "Rural Restaurant Revival." While I understand you can't feature all quality small-town restaurants out there, I think it's remiss not to mention Rawhides in Stenen. It is perhaps one of the most unexpected eateries on the prairies: an old schoolhouse converted into a bar, bistro and fine-dining establishment, featuring a Red Seal Chef. It's nice to see business owners take initiative to bring life back to a small town. –Danielle Barrett, Battleford Write us: Speaker's Corner, Westworld Saskatchewan, 200 Albert Street N., Regina, SK S4R 5E2; email: caa.admin@caask.ca. Letters may be edited for clarity and brevity. It's Good To Be Here It is an honour as the new chair of the board for CAA Saskatchewan to serve you, our valued members. I look forward to guiding CAA Saskatchewan during my two-year term. As a former chief engineer with the provincial Ministry of Highways, I have a strong interest in promoting good highways and advocating for road safety. Along with my wife, Margaret, I anticipate meeting long-standing and new members, such as on the Chairman of the Board Cruise in March 2014. As vice-chair, I gained experience and insight working alongside our past chair, Ted Hillstead. I would like to thank Ted and our directors for their commitment and professionalism. During my term I will have the pleasure of working alongside Dr. William Elliott, past chair, current member of CAA Saskatchewan and newly elected chair of CAA National. Our many great accomplishments this past year profile our role as Saskatchewan's advocate for motorists and travellers. Indeed, our primary focus is our trusted, loyal membership of 185,000 that count on us for the best member benefits in roadside assistance, automotive, insurance and travel service. Here are just a few 2013 highlights: • The 2013 CAA School Safety Patrol Jamboree attracted 120 patrollers and 6 Westworld p06-07_Speakers Crnr.indd 6 >> chaperones from across the province. • CAA Saskatchewan sponsored the 2013 Saskatchewanderer, Caitlyn Taylor, to help promote our province's roadworthy destinations. Taylor was provided with gas vouchers and a CAA membership. • The 2013 CAA Worst Roads campaign attracted approximately 2,900 votes from motorists around the province. Hwy. 123 near Cumberland House took top spot on the Top Ten Worst Roads List; Regina's Ring Road was also nominated – improvements have since been initiated. Working towards better roads and driving safety is a priority for CAA Saskatchewan. • CAA Saskatchewan was recognized for its commitment to excellence, innovation and growth, and success of Saskatchewan's tourism sector (see page 45). • The purchase of the Regina Battery Depot complements our business by offering members and customers greater product selection and better pricing. • The introduction of our PlatesPLUS Auto Package Policy in Saskatchewan offers an affordable choice for auto insurance; it's exclusive to CAA but available to everyone. It is my pleasure to work with the CAA Saskatchewan team for a successful 2013/2014 that we can all be proud of. • –Barry D.
