Not only did we have a gracious driver in Don Stovin, but tour guide Fred Chriest was also there to keep us on track. A jokester and historian, he has an answer to every question. Leaving the familiar grasslands of Saskatchewan behind, we motored through northern Alberta's highlands and the vast wilderness of northern B.C., occasionally spotting bears and moose along the way. Passing Mile Zero of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, B.C., we stopped at the Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake, Yukon, where we posted our sign from home among the site's 72,000 other signs. We soon got a taste of the Yukon's early days by going back in time aboard the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. Following in the footsteps of early gold seekers, the train rises thousands of feet above a valley before descending into the former gold-rush town of Skagway, Alaska. The Midnight Dome Lookout in Dawson City, Yukon, proved to be the best place to watch the midnight sun and the changing colours of the night sky. Though short, the nights brought a different perspective to our northern adventure. Returning home through the Rocky Mountains, we took in a perfectly clear view of Mount Robertson. Sitting among our new friends on the coach while passing grazing buffalo, we were soon back on the prairies. Amazing is the only word I can use to describe this tour. We are still ecstatic and excited when we tell our friends and family about all the fun we had. Certainly, this was a summer roadtrip we will never forget.
