n June, on behalf of BCBusiness,
Mustel Group asked 401 Metro
Vancouver residents if they would
give up their car if there were an app
connecting them to other transporta-
tion options. Most would not, it turns
out. In every category and location,
about half the respondents who own an
automobile said they'd keep it.
"For the moment, mobility-as-a-
service (
MAAS) is an unproven concept
with great potential," says Mustel
general manager Josh O'Neill. "It's
likely that attitudes will change over
time as this type of service matures and
becomes more commonplace. Being
able to easily demonstrate the value and
cost-effectiveness of this new approach
to personal transportation will be key to
any company that gets to market."

If you had the option of using a smartphone or online application that gave
you access to a variety of transportation services, including car-sharing, bike-
sharing, ride-sharing, traditional public transportation (such as buses and
SkyTrain), as well as other on-demand mobility services that provided a simple
and efficient way to plan and pay for trips using those services, would you
consider giving up personal vehicle ownership in the next five years?
