To recognize SFU's 50th Anniversary, the City of Surrey presented the University with a special proc- lamation—a call to celebrate SFU's milestone and highlight the University's commitment to meeting the growing demands for higher education in Surrey. 12. SFU 50th Anniversary associate project director, Adam Brayford, stands at the site selected for the installment of Haida artist Bill Reid's Black Eagle Canoe, a gift to SFU from the Bill Reid Gallery. 13. The Sept. 9 anniversary celebration ended with a bang as more than 2,000 guests witnessed a light show and fire- works atop Burnaby Mountain. 14. VP of research Joy Johnson stands in front of the Gordon Smith Mosaic Mural that inspired the artwork for the 50th Anniver- sary campus décor and banner campaign.
