FALL 2015 simon 59 SFU.CA BUILDING CAMPUSES + COMMUNITIES W THE SEGAL BUILDING The Segal Building was generously donated to SFU in 2002 by philanthropists Joseph and Rosalie Segal. This 1916 heritage build- ing, which formerly housed the Bank of Montreal, stands on the corner of Granville and Pender Streets in the heart of the city's financial district. Its distinguished setting is home to SFU's Beedie School of Busi- ness' graduate programs. It's also a popular meeting venue for downtown businesses. W GOLDCORP CENTRE FOR THE ARTS SFU proudly opened the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, located at the historic Woodward's department store site at 149 West Hastings Street, in September 2010. The building features a state-of-the-art cinema and performance spaces, and is home to SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts. To help support programs aimed at community engagement in the Downtown Eastside, the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts Community Endowment is a unique initiative that generates annual income to help sup- port programs. The campus hosts City Conversations, a community dialogue presented by SFU Public Square. The bi- weekly event invites community members and industry experts to discuss issues that concern the Downtown Eastside community. W VISUAL ARTS STUDIO The School for Contemporary Arts also utilizes the Visual Arts Studio located at 611 Alexander Street. The large open- plan studio has accommodated SFU's visual art studios since 1993, as well as studios for students in the Master of Fine Arts program. W BILL REID GALLERY The Bill Reid Foundation donated its entire collection of Northwest Coast art, worth more than $10 million and consisting of 158 works, to SFU in September 2011. To house the collection, SFU established a partner- ship with the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art at 639 Hornby Street. ■ SFU VANCOUVER EXPANSIONS Clockwise from left: SFU'S Harbour Centre, which opened in May 1989; The Bill Reid Gallery; the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts; The Segal Building; the Morris J.
