FALL 2015 simon 41 SFU.CA W W LUI PASSAGLIA If record-holding were a sport, Lui Passaglia would surely win. The former CFL punter/placekicker who got his start with SFU's Clan football team after playing quarterback in high school went on to play a record- breaking 25 seasons with the BC Lions. But that's just one of multiple records he's broken, including most CFL regular games (408), most points scored in regular season play (3,991), first to score over 200 points in a season, most field goals (875) and the list goes on. He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and BC Sports Hall of Fame, a long-time ambassador with the BC Lions, and now, at 61, has just scored another huge win—battling stage 3 colon cancer into remission. KIM ROSSMO It was thanks to Kim Rossmo's research on geographic profiling that Vancouver serial killer Robert Pickton was convicted on six counts of second-degree murder in 2007. As part of his SFU PhD in criminology, Rossmo developed an innovative method of investigating violent crime based on geographic patterns involved in the attacks. In 1995 he became the first police officer in Canada to obtain a doctorate in this field and, 10 years later, became the second SFU graduate to receive the Nora and Ted Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy. His geographic profiling software is now used internationally. W SFU softball head coach Mike Renney has produced 20 SFU players who have represented Canada globally, and he's led the Clan softball team to 14 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) champion- ships, resulting in four national titles. He's been named NAIA and NFCA Coach of the Year three times, and last year was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. W Dancer Karen Jamieson has choreographed a perfect career. Still performing well into her 60s, the SFU alumna has fearlessly pushed the boundaries of dance through her eponymous dance company. She was a founding member of the experimental dance collective Terminal City Dance Research, and has taught composition and technique to SFU dance students. ■ Q Award-winning film- maker Patricia Gruben is a professor of film in SFU's School for the Contemporary Arts. She is also the director of The Praxis Centre for Screen- writers and is recognized for mentoring women in the film industry. C H A MP IONS , INNO VATORS , DOERS + C H A NGE M A K ERS
