47 WANT TO SEE WHAT VANCOUVER BLOGGERS HAVE TO SAY? insidevancouver.ca ➔ A T T R A C T I O N S FROM SEA TO SKY A scenic drive from downtown Vancouver to neighbouring Squamish, the Sea to Sky Gondola soars 885 metres (2,900 feet) above sparkling ocean, taking guests to an outdoor paradise featuring hiking trails, a suspension bridge and a First Nations interpretive trail. No car? No problem. Your clients can book Landsea Tours & Adventures' full-day Sea to Sky Tour, a seven-hour journey that includes transportation, a pit stop at Shannon Falls and visits to the gondola as well as the Britannia Mine Museum, a National Historic Site that encourages kids to dig deep into Vancouver's mining history. SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN FUN Head for the newly renovated geodesic dome overlooking False Creek for a day of educational entertainment. Science World at TELUS World of Science is a knowledge-focused wonderland that encourages visitors to dirty their hands and expand their minds by exploring hundreds of interactive exhibits (where else is it considered "learning" when you play a piano with your feet or build cities with wooden blocks?). The whole family will enjoy taking part in the fun and informative science shows, strolling through lush Ken Spencer Science Park and checking out the fascinating documentaries at the OMNIMAX Theatre – the largest of its kind in the world. UNDERWATER ENCOUNTERS Watch the animals play at the Vancouver Aquarium, home to more than 70,000 residents hailing from the Arctic, Africa and beyond. Visitors can chill with the penguins at Penguin Point, hang out with sloths in the exotic Amazon gallery – a true-to-life re-creation of a South American rainforest – and check out the current show playing at the 4D Theatre. But for a stay- with-you-forever experience, sign up for an Animal Encounter and make fast friends by feeding belugas, dolphins, sea otters and sea lions (don't forget your camera!). And be sure to ask about the Aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre. Every year, the organization rescues more than 100 marine mammals so they can return to their natural habitat. CITY, SEA AND SPACE Home to three popular museums, Vanier Park is a centre of learning. The Vancouver Maritime Museum is an all- access pass to British Columbia's diverse sea life, and includes hands- on activities for kids in the Children's Maritime Discovery Centre. The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre turns its gaze to the stars, with astronomy shows in the planetarium plus live demonstrations on how astronauts live and work in space. And at the Museum of Vancouver, the city is the star of the show – unique exhibits showcase the most colourful parts of Vancouver's history, including a collection of vintage neon signs! MOUNTAINTOP ADVENTURES Grouse Mountain is the ultimate mountaintop playground, and the fun begins on a thrilling gondola ascent to the summit. At the top, visitors are greeted with jaw-dropping views, riotous lumberjack shows, Birds in Motion demonstrations and – everyone's favourite – a chance to visit Grinder and Coola, the mountain's resident rescued grizzly bears. Air Grouse Mountain Ziplines guarantees an adrenalin rush, as does a trip up Eye of the Wind, the world's first commercial wind turbine. Winter offers great opportunities to ski, snowboard and ice skate, while summertime is prime for hiking, tackling the challenging Grouse Grind trail and engaging in a round of Mountaintop Disc Golf.
