And it's no mystery why. Our city boasts countless world-class restaurants, an overwhelming array of authentic ethnic cuisine and a bounty of deliciousness from both land and sea. So it was just a matter of time before we dedicated an issue of BCLiving to local food – and we couldn't be more excited to share it with you. To discover the tastiest eats in town, we went straight to the experts and asked four of our favourite chefs – Andrea Carlson (Burdock & Co.), David Hawks- worth (Hawksworth), Makoto Ono (Pidgin) and Vikram Vij (Vij's) – for their top restaurant picks as well as their go-to local ingredients and products. (Don't forget to download our free iPad edition from the iTunes App Store for exclusive video cooking tips from our top chefs.) Our hunger didn't stop at Vancouver's culinary superstars. We devoured the city's best doughnuts, created a menu of 10 things to put on your Vancouver eating bucket list and even headed south to Portland to select six amazing meals you don't want to miss on your next weekend getaway. But we're serving up more than just food in this issue. As autumn approaches, we preview some exciting fall festivals, including Vancouver's International Film Festival, the 30th annual Fringe Festival and a brand-new Oktoberfest celebration. In our home section, we round up the season's cosiest decor trends and get a look inside a stunning nature-inspired home in North Vancouver. For fall fashion, we shopped high and local to reveal the coolest styles of the season and showcase them against the stunning backdrop of Strathcona. So bon appétit, Vancouver. We hope you drool over this issue as much as we have. Let us know what you think of BCLiving and how you're eating up life in our scrumptious city. We look forward to hearing from you. Janine Verreault Editor, BCLiving jverreault@canadawide.com / @BCLiving Rick Chung wrote this month's feature story on Vancouver's tastiest dishes (p. 63). What I enjoyed most about working on this assignment was rediscovering all the diverse food and dining options available in this city, but I didn't enjoy reminding myself of what a glutton I am. My favourite restaurant is Suika Snack Bar because it's solid for any mood, craving or time of day. It's di cult to choose, but if I had to, I would say my favourite dish in the city is the Aburi Salmon Oshi roll from Miku/Minami. Robert Kenney shot this month's story on fall fashion trends (p. 21). What I enjoyed most about working on this photo shoot was the great group of talented people I got to play with. The most challenging part was getting out of bed at 5:30 a.m. My favourite dish in the city is the Crispy Ceci (chickpeas, chilies, mint, citrus) at Campagnolo on Main Street. Catherine Roscoe Barr wrote this month's story on must-try fall fi tness classes (p. 27). My all-time favourite workout is yoga on the beach, and I currently love creating jump-rope and strength- training circuits on my patio. I couldn't choose just one, so my favourite restaurants include Forage, Cibo Trattoria, CinCin and MARKET by Jean- Georges. These places are leading the way in utterly delicious, local, seasonal, sustainable and ethical food. Contributors
