Have you ever watched a kite dance? If you haven't, it's worth the trip to Swift Current's annual kite festival (June 21 and 22, 2014) to witness the mesmerizing spectacle of a kite bobbing, stopping and soaring to the beat of a song. With world-renowned flyers in its lineup, the kite festival features three high-flying areas: one for kites the size of houses, one for sport-kite shows and one for public flying. Children of the younger variety can spend hours making kites, getting their faces painted, digging for dollars or taking in the music at the children's stage. The combination of southern Saskatchewan's windy conditions, international kite teams and a focus on children's activities makes this festival one of the Seven Wonders. Wonder tips: Accommodation at the new Home Inn & Suites (homeinnswiftcurrent.ca) provides a kid-friendly venue for a hot breakfast, swim and good night's sleep before or after the festival. 4 Temple Gardens Mineral Spa We packed up for a three-night adventure in Moose Jaw, feeling a little guilty that our little ones wouldn't enjoy the spa experience quite as much as the adults. To our surprise, all our kids (aged 2, 3 and 5) were perfectly happy to spend hours splashing in the pool. We took in visits to the Yvette Moore Gallery of Fine Arts, the historic Hopkins Dining Parlour and the Western Development Museum's History of Transportation. But it was the water that kept calling our children back. Our Moose Jaw adventure went a little like this: rise, crack open a travel-pack of cereal, head to the pool for a swim, visit the hotel's kidfriendly Harwood's Dining Room, go for a swim, order room service for supper, go for a swim – and sleep 12 hours until it was time to swim again. Floating around with their water wings in the warm and soothing water and occasionally venturing to the outdoor hot pool through the waterway tunnel was more than enough to keep them content. Wonder tips: We liked this experience in early spring as it was nice enough to go outside but still cool enough to make us appreciate the spa setting. templegardens.sk.ca 5 Saskatoon Zoo Saskatoon has a zoo? That was usually the question when people found out we had spent the weekend searching for outstanding children's activities in Saskatoon.
