- a destination wedding how-to s s o a a r - ? What's included Chris Cheadle/All Canada Photos, (opposite) iStock g o a , , , d h a , When considering a wedding abroad, the first order of business is to ask: is a destination wedding right for me? The growing trend among brides is to simplify the planning, ease the stress and have everything taken care of. Once that's settled, read on for a list of things to keep in mind when planning a nuptial getaway. Most resort wedding packages include an onsite co-ordinator, an officiant, a bouquet, cake, music, dinner and wine. Photos and video typically cost extra. Group excursions must be booked in advance and are rarely part of the deal, though the resort may be able to assist with the planning. Book early Wedding groups generally stay for a week to 10 days, though the couple might choose to stay on longer for some alone time. The busiest time for booking the wedding trip is March to May, when most of the tour operators are putting out promotions to try and fill their space for the following winter season. To avoid having to compromise on the location, book as early as possible. Most resorts only do one to three weddings per day, depending on the size of the resort. Since the number of guests will affect cost and availability, have approximate numbers before talking with a wedding planner or group travel specialist. Give your guests ample notice and be mindful that not everyone you invite will attend. What to ask The number-one challenge of a destination wedding is planning the celebration siteunseen. So first, ask the resort or wedding planner for photos of past weddings. This will give you an idea of whether the place suits your taste when it's all decked out. Supply photos of wedding decor you like, since words such as "romantic" and "dreamy" can be interpreted in myriad ways. Next, ask about the wedding packages and rates. What can be customized? Who will oversee the planning at the resort? Are there group accommodation rates available for you and your guests? How far is the airport from the wedding site, and will transportation be provided? Also stress the importance of legal documents. Inquire about the papers needed to ensure that a legal ceremony takes place (a non-legal ceremony is always an option, but then you'll have to do the real deal back home). Ask whether a notary and translator will be present to ensure the marriage certificates are legal and properly filed, or whether you have to do this yourself. • Excludes alcohol. Dine-in only. Not valid with any other offers coupons or promotions. Excludes parties larger than 10 and corporate functions.
