Expansion of the ED is a top priority in the High Level Master Concept Plan for Peace Arch Hospital. In light of these dramatic changes, Buccini confirms that Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation and Fraser Health have been working together to advance the case for expanding Peace Arch Hospital; to build capacity to allow the hospital to meet the growing health-care needs of its community both now and into the future. Maximizing effort In a fiscal environment where health-care dollars are limited, Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation and Fraser Health have focused their efforts on craft ing a sustainable plan that will ensure every dollar committed to making this project happen is spent wisely and reaps benefits over the long-term. Buccini says the High Level Master Concept Plan for Peace Arch Hospital, completed in February 2012, will provide for immediate, mid-term and long-term expansion: "We've planned for facilities that are flexible and adaptable, that will easily incorporate future innovations. "It's a good strategy for the community," says Buccini, "because its health-care needs will be met now and 10 to 20 years down the road. And it's good for donors who will be investing in a long-term solution, not just a temporary fix." Four-pronged approach "We've planned holistically to develop an overall vision; one that's based on the current and future needs of the community, with evidence of what's needed in terms of clinical care." Marco Buccini, Executive Director Facilities, Planning & Real Estate, Fraser Health Buccini describes the long-term solution at Peace Arch Hospital as being a state-ofthe-art hospital that is an integrated part of the community. This includes a new emergency department (combining redevelopment and expansion); redeveloped surgical procedure rooms; new and replacement residential complex-care beds; and a new hospice residence. "There's an opportunity here to make these other improvements in support of the ED because solving wait times goes beyond the ED itself," says Buccini. "With this Plan, residents are getting triple value: better access, better quality care and opportunities for further improvements down the road."
