14 FALL/WINTER 2019 PSF.CA BOTTOMS UP! Like beer? Like salmon? Here's a few easy ways you can contribute to the Pacific Salmon Foundation. In July 2019, the Pod Pack was released in local liquor stores, a collaboration spearheaded by Vancouver Island Brewing to rally local breweries in support of wild salmon and the Southern Resident Orcas that rely on them. White Sails Brewing, Twin City Brewing Co., Île Sauvage Brewing Co. and Land & Sea Brewing Co. each created a beer for the tall-can mix pack, with $1 generated for PSF from every Pod Pack sold. Vancouver Island Brewing has also launched PSF Chinook Lager in support of PSF salmon projects. These new beer collabs follow on the success of Postmark Easy Lager, which was launched a few years ago; the light, sessionable beer continues to be available across B.C. with part proceeds from every can, growler and keg sold supporting PSF community salmon projects. SALMON IN THE SKY Helijet continues supporting wild Pacific salmon as their "per flight donation" program soars ahead in 2019. Every one-way ticket sold on scheduled service routes between Vancouver and Victoria and between Vancouver and Nanaimo generates $0.30 for PSF projects in the Strait of Georgia and on Vancouver Island. The new partnership also includes in-kind helicopter time that already greatly reduced the costs of an egg-take last September, for the Percy Walkus Hatchery in Rivers Inlet. Keep an eye out for Helijet helicopters, courtesy cars and transport buses emblazoned with the PSF logo! These vehicles are helping to spread awareness amongst the many anglers, government workers and other influencers who travel with Helijet. In addition, Helijet will host this year's PSF Nanaimo Reception at their Nanaimo heliport on November 14, 2019. Tickets can be found on our events page at psf.ca. A KILLER CONTRIBUTION For several years, a group of whale watching and eco-tourism companies have come together to support the Pacific Salmon Foundation's work in the Strait of Georgia – critical habitat and hunting grounds for Southern Resident Killer Whales. The companies offer a $2 to $5 conservation fee to guests that is passed on to PSF. This year, Orca Spirit Adventures surpassed $100,000 in total donations! Also, Prince of Whales, Whale & Marine Wildlife Adventures donated $25,000 at the 2019 Pod Fest, an event launching the aforementioned Pod Pack in Victoria. The funds were part of a multi-year, $1-million commitment to orca conservation. Kudos to our other whale watching partners as well who have helped raise more than $300,000 since program inception: BC Whale Tours, Eagle Wing Tours, Five Star Whale Watching, Ocean Outfitters, Vancouver Whale Watch and Wild Whales Vancouver. B.C. Premier John Horgan flew one of Helijet's PSF-decaled helicopters with PSF CEO Michael Meneer. Staff from Prince of Whales, Whale & Marine Wildlife Adventures present a $25,000 donation to PSF staff, as part of a multi-year, $1-million commitment to orca conservation.
