Government Invests $5 Million in PSF & Wild Salmon CALENDAR OF EVENTS L-R: MLA Adam Olsen, Saanich North and the Islands; Councillor Jackie Albany, Songhees Nation; B.C. Premier John Horgan; Michael Meneer, CEO, PSF; B.C. Minister of Agriculture Lana Popham; MLA Doug Routley, Nanaimo-North Cowichan. PSF will utilize these funds with three overriding priorities in mind: Transformational activities that have the ability to drive long-term, systemic change for Pacific salmon sustainability. PSF will complete its Pacific Salmon Explorer platform to provide all stakeholders with access to salmon data, and engage with First Nations and communities to supplement annual DFO monitoring programs. Demonstrable conservation projects that can improve the health and abundance of salmon. PSF wants to enable actions that will help clear the "bottlenecks" that impede salmon, such as disconnected fish passages. Focus on critical salmon stocks. Wild populations of Fraser River salmon have declined dramatically in recent years, affecting opportunities for salmon fisheries. PSF will seek to assess the limiting factors for salmon in fresh water and collaborate with the province, DFO, First Nations and our conservation partners on activities to restore critical salmon stocks (read about the first project funded this year on p. 9).
