Membership helps architects further their careers, expand their knowledge and skills, enhance their connections in the industry, and save money. The designa- tion, MRAIC, signifies pride, enthusiasm, and commitment. Renew by December 31 and save up to $100 on continuing edu- cation. The savings include a $50 discount on a Webday Wednesday webinar plus a $50 discount on any workshop valued at $500 or more. Members include architects, designers, academics, students, interns, retired practitioners, writers, curators, international mem- bers, allied professionals, and corporate affiliates. The RAIC has significantly ramped up the products, services, benefits, and activities that are available to members. The goal is to empower architects and the wide variety of people who make and think about architecture through education, tools, resources, and advocacy. Members enjoy preferred rates on most RAIC activities. CONTINUING EDUCATION The RAIC offers a range of innovative educational modules to help members at all career stages advance their skills and meet require- ments for continuing education credits. The five continuing education streams have been updated for 2020. They are Foundations of Practice; For Architects (Project Management and Financial Management); Heritage Conservation; Webday Wednesdays, and Corporate Affiliates. In addition to online courses, members can also earn credits at the RAIC Festival of Architecture, taking place October 26 to 30 in Toronto, or through in-person workshops across Canada. RAIC AWARDS The RAIC is proud to sponsor awards to celebrate architectural excellence in Canada and around the world. These awards rec- ognize outstanding achievement at every level from student scholarships to the RAIC Gold Medal; from the National Urban Design Awards to the RAIC International Prize. They include the annual Young Architect, Emerging Architectural Practice and Firm awards, the Prix du XXe siècle, and the RAIC Awards of Excellence for innovation, green building, media, advocacy, and allied arts. AFFINITY PARTNERSHIPS The RAIC continues to forge new partnerships with companies and organizations that provide benefits and discounts on products and services for members. The list of participating organizations includes home, auto, and pet insurance from the Personal, Goodlife Fitness, Uniglobe Travel, Dell, and design publications. In partnership with BMS, the RAIC offers competitively-priced professional liability insurance tailored specifically to the needs of architects. Members can purchase a full insurance package or top up existing or mandatory coverage. RAIC CHAPTERS Among its new initiatives, the RAIC is establishing provincial chap- ters across Canada. New chapters in B.C. and Alberta launched earlier this year, and work on chapters in Atlantic Canada is under- way. The chapter network will continue to grow as grassroots initiatives led by RAIC volunteers. Chapters will create a stronger voice for advocacy at the provincial, regional, and municipal levels; provide networking opportunities, increase engagement between architects and the RAIC, and boost visibility for the profession. ADVOCACY The RAIC advocates for the architectural profession and the built environment with the federal government on issues such as the quality of procurement calls, the use of unlicensed practitioners, and contract language on liability and risk. It also advocates for Qualifications-Based Selection, sustainability, fair architectural fees, and procurement practices, and high standards in architec- ture, urban planning, and design. Belonging to the RAIC means amplifying the voice for the archi- tectural profession across Canada to influence decision-makers, shape public discourse, and effect change. PRACTICE SUPPORT The RAIC supports architectural practice through tools such as contracts and documents. Most recently, the Institute produced and released a new fee guide, A Guide to Determining Appropriate Fees for the Services of an Architect. RAIC members may download a non-printable PDF version at no charge at the RAIC online store at raic.org. Cost to non-members is $20 plus tax. For both members and non-members, a hard copy costs $40 plus tax. COMMITTEES Committees, such as the RAIC Emerging Practitioners and the RAIC Indigenous Task Force, provide opportunities for personal and professional growth for members in specific areas of interest. The Committee on Regenerative Environments, for example, has been involved in public policy advocacy on topics such as climate change, National Building Code and sustainability, energy-efficient buildings, and moving to a low-carbon economy. RENEWAL Be part of a creative, engaged, and inclusive community that is building a healthy future for architecture in Canada. Starting on November 4, members can renew their membership for 2020. Find out more about your membership renewal by logging in to the members' section of our website at raic.org. For informa- tion, please contact Membership Administrator Gretta Inamahoro, at membership@raic.org or 1-844-856-RAIC (7242) Ext. 200. A Celebrating Architectural Excellence
