OCTOBER 2019 | 47 To help tie the Science Commons into University Hall, PCL removed a footbridge and built an enclosed, glazed bridge that leads directly to three lecture halls. The build- ers also upgraded the generator in University Hall to accommodate the Science Commons. "Additionally, we redid University Hall's north facade by removing the original cedar plank cladding and replacing it with fibre cement cladding," says Felzien. "Originally more substantial upgrades had been planned, but adherence to budget took precedence." By the time of the September grand opening, the Science Commons was already a success in that new Fall 2019 registrants to Bachelor of Science pro- grams were up over 23 percent from 2018, while total BSc registrants were up nearly 10 percent.
