The Mapei Flexcolor 3D provides a translucent and iridescent finish. "It not only reflects light but it also refracts light," says J.D. Eckmire, sales director for Western Canada. "That gives a really unique look to the finish." He says the reason designers are excited about the product is it offers an alter- nate to regular, solid colour grouts that cause decorative glass tiles to take on a dull monochromatic tone. "If you have something that is translucent where it can reflect or refract light, it totally changes the look of the glass and allows it to show off the design features. This 3D product has translucent characteristics that allow the grout to transition in colour to complement the tile colour." Eckmire adds that Mapei Flexcolor 3D is formulated with the latest innovation in recycled glass-bead aggregate, which ensures colour consistency, ease of cleanabil- ity and improved workability. In addition, this grout can be used on sensitive tile surfaces, once tested, and requires no sealer and cures naturally from evaporation. S E A L T H E D E A L Schluter-Systems has developed three new thin-set mortars for ceramic and stone tile installation – Schluter SET unmodified thin-set mortar, Schluter ALL-SET modi- fied thin-set mortar and Schluter FAST-SET rapid-setting modified thin-set mortar. "These products have been specifically formulated for Schluter membranes and boards," says Dale Kempster, technical director, Canada. "They will allow tile install- ers to use a single source for their tile installation systems, with guaranteed prod- uct compatibility." The Schluter ALL-SET modified thin-set is engineered for use both under and overall DITRA and KERDI products. "The Schluter FAST-SET rapid-setting modified thin-set is ready to grout in four hours for fast-track projects. All three products, including Schluter SET, are approved to set porcelain tile over Schluter boards and membranes," says Kempster. Schluter-Systems' modified thin-set mortars have been specifically formulated to set and gain strength in a timeframe that fits typical installation practice, even when sandwiched between Schluter membranes or boards and porcelain tile.
