DrinK Beer, SuPPort PSF In 2016, Postmark Brewing approached the Foundation with a partnership to brew PSF Lager in support of salmon projects. The beer will kick off fishing season this year by expanding to lodges across B.C. Says Nate Rayment, Postmark Brewing co-founder: "The idea of 'drink beer, save salmon' has been embraced by lodges, tackle companies, stores and anglers of all ages. The next wave of the project will launch just in time for fishing lodges all over the coast to stock up for the season. We couldn't be more proud to expand this collaboration with the Pacific Salmon Foundation." "Pacific salmon are an important personal cause for me, as they have provided many treasured memories on the water with my family," David explains. As an angler and conservationist who has enjoyed my fair share of this remarkable fish, I appreciate the essential role they play in our environment, and the duty we all have to ensure their sustainability." a wHale oF a DiFFerence In 2012, the Court of Appeals ruled that killer whales must be protected under the Species at Risk Act; part of that included protecting their main food source – Chinook salmon. Since 2014, whale watching companies have been doing just that, collectively raising almost $100,000 for research and restoration through the Pacific Salmon Foundation's Salish Sea Marine Survival Project (marinesurvivalproject.com). Bc whale tours, eagle wing tours, orca Spirit adventures, Prince of whales whale watching and Vancouver whale watch are all adding optional "conservation contributions" to customer invoices, giving guests the opportunity to support the Project. Orca Spirit Adventures' Lauren and John Douglas (C) attend the South Vancouver Island Gala at the Fairmont Empress. nortHern exPoSure: tranScanaDa transcanada has donated more than $330,000 to the Pacific Salmon Foundation since 2014 for community grants, education bursaries and data collection in Northern B.C. They were a key funder of the Pacific Salmon Explorer (salmonexplorer. ca) – an online data visualization platform created by the Skeena Salmon Program that makes info about salmon in the Skeena broadly available to the public. "We strive to support environmental initiatives that matter most to our local communities – so we are very pleased to support educational opportunities for students who display leadership in environmental stewardship in British Columbia," says Andrea Jalbert, VP of environment, land and indigenous relations at TransCanada. "Through the work of these dedicated students, TransCanada is proud to play a role in the protection of wild salmon habitat and is committed to collaborating with Pacific Salmon Foundation around the sustainability of this important resource."
