salmon Steward magazine 11 SUPPORTER SPOTLIGHTS Big Fish, Big Plans Two things that Duncanby Lodge owner Sid Keay loves: tie-dye and salmon. This year, the commitment to his passion reached new heights (the salmon, not the tie-dye!). A long-term donor, Keay gave $20,000 to the Pacific Salmon Foundation this year amidst immense personal investments in a new hatchery in Rivers Inlet. For the last several years, Keay and others have been busy trying to raise capital to build the Percy Walkus Hatchery on the banks of the Wannock River. In the summer of 2016, the hatchery was officially opened and will play a vital role for salmon enhancement in the area. The Foundation supported the project through Community Salmon Program grants and looks forward to future collaboration with the new hatchery. The Pacific Salmon Foundation was the beneficiary of the 2016 Salmon Championship held over Father's Day weekend at the brand-new Pacific Gateway Marina in Port Renfrew. Marina owner Andrew Purdey hopes to continue supporting the Foundation through the event. Purdey was introduced to the Foundation through the Major Donors Circle, which brings together supporters who donate, or raise through other means, a minimum of $5,000 on an annual basis. Since inception, the Circle has grown immensely and provided a key base of sup- port for the Foundation. Major Donors Circle members are invited to semi-annual luncheons for an update from Foundation President Dr. Brian Riddell and other guest speakers. To get involved, contact Cory Matheson at 604.664.7664 or cmatheson@psf.ca. Special thanks to coffee company Keurig for supporting the Salish Sea Marine Survival Project for a second year in a row. In 2017, the company will donate $16,000 to fund a citizen science boat for a year. Donations to the Pacific Salmon Foundation support projects that address salmon conservation, restoration and enhancement across the province. These individuals and organizations have made cumulative donations of $100,000 or more to the Foundation.
