DECEMBER 2015 | 43 Beaulieu Canada brings two distinct products to the market with the Aqua Hospitality Carpets and BOLYU modular tiles. Aqua Hospitality Carpets has one main objective – to inspire. "This is a collection of bold, innovative and creative designs destined to attract attention and set the bar for innovative design stan- dards," says Christie Clunan, design and colour manager for Aqua Hospitality Prints. "It is the essence of our designers translating our customers' vision into a tangible form – the design is created, never limited, transposed into a visual image, then takes form into the most unexpected form – a carpet." Clunan says the design community can offer unique signature pieces with Aqua Hospitality Carpets. "The possibilities are unlimited with remarkable precision on a high-tech Cromojet carpet printer, the only one in Canada, adding LEED points to any project." For another Beaulieu option, BOLYU's modular tiles are 100 per cent PVC free and contain at least 40 per cent post-consumer recycle content, along with up to 30 per cent pre-consumer recycle content. "In 2013, our tile manufacturing process alone diverted over 30 million PET plastic bottles from the landfill," says Manon Tourigny, sales and marketing director, commercial division. "BOLYU uses the recycled PET content in our fibre systems and carpet tile backing." As a global flooring provider, Shaw Contract Group has individual design studios focused on all commercial market segments and geographic regions. "Currently, versatility is key," says Reesie Duncan, VP design. "Across the board, Shaw Contract Group clients want a variety of product options. This allows design teams to choose styles that best suit the needs of a space as well as the design intent." Duncan says traditional elements such as colour, texture and scale are still major factors – along with sus- tainable design. "As the commercial trend for open and collaborative envi- ronments continues to evolve, our clients are designing sophisticated spaces that call out quiet areas, com- munal areas, directional pathways and areas to inspire, energize and cre- ate. More frequently, we're designing collections with carpet products and co-ordinating hard surface styles." Shaw Contract Group is driven by sustainability and is focussed on com- plete transparency in regard to mate- rial health. "All of our EcoWorx backed products with EcoSolution Q nylon fibre are Cradle to Cradle Certified, contribute to LEED and backed by an Environmental Guarantee for free reclama- tion and recycling," says John Stephens, VP marketing. "To enhance our internal portfolio of recycling options, we've expanded our operations with a new facility to manage the recycling of nylon 6, nylon 6,6 as well as PET." Those working in the adhesive realm have found that the carpet market for com- mercial or residential use continues to be challenged by customer preference for hard goods or resilient flooring option. However carpet still definitely has it s place. "For commercial applications carpet tile excels for the obvious reasons of installa- tion ease, durability and design," says Yoanna Pergantis, marketing manager for MAPEI Canada. "MAPEI's Ultrabond ECO 810 professional carpet tile adhesive is the perfect choice for fast-track vinyl-backed carpet tile installations. Now with a new formulation, it offers even greater performance including faster dry times and an enhanced, more aggressive tack." Ultrabond ECO 810 can be installed into wet adhesive for permanent bonding or allowed to dry to its tacky phase for releasable installations. "Hospitality venues, such as hotels, casinos and convention centres still prefer the use of broadloom car- pet typically installed in a double stick method for comfort and possibly for acous- tical properties," says Pergantis. She adds, "Residentially, carpet is fighting a tough battle with other low-main- tenance, potentially less dust and allergen collecting choices such as luxury vinyl plank and tile, tile and stone, or wood flooring. At the end of the day there really is nothing that can compare to carpet in terms of comfort and acoustical properties for either commercial or residential applications."
