DECEMBER 2015 | 31 Sinks T Smooth sleek lines dominate the world of sinks by LAURIE JONES Bowled Over The world of sinks has evolved over decades of design innovation, consumer needs and sometimes trend-set- ting styles. Whether the installation is undermount or top-mount, today's manufacturers and distributors have units that fit all commercial and residential needs. Known for innovative solutions, Kohler has intro- duced the stainless steel Prolific sink that addresses the needs of every household member for both kitchen tasks and work height, with three different work zones and five accessories. "All included accessories adjust to each of the bevelled heights, allowing users to adapt the workspace to fit their personal needs," says Greg Jastrow, product manager for stainless steel kitchen sinks. "Prolific's large, deep single bowl allows plenty of space to soak and clean large cookware and bake- ware while a bevelled cone-shape around the drain makes a crisp target with a clean esthetic." The shape and size of the drain allows for quicker debris disposal and reduced water waste while rinsing. A bamboo cutting board provides a sturdy work sur- face that is beautiful, portable and easy to clean, and two durable, dishwasher-safe grated racks provide a drying rack for dishes. "The racks can be placed in the basin of the sink as protective basin racks as well," adds Jastrow. BLANCO Canada Inc. has launched its new BLANCO QUATRUS Gourmet Series that provides consumers with a fresh approach to daily life in the kitchen. With this new product selection, the sink becomes much more with the option of utilizing the accessories for a functionable kitchen work area. "Sink customization to individual lifestyle needs can be achieved with the ash cutting board, multi-level grids and sink worksta- tion," says Edyta Drutis, marketing manager. The Sink Workstation is another accessory that fits directly over BLANKO QUATRUS kitchen sinks, enabling storage and usage of knives and kitchen uten- sils directly in the sink area. This series of accessories is designed to complement BLANCO's popular BLANCO QUATRUS stainless steel sinks, which are available in zero radius and R15 corner design selection. "BLANCO QUATRUS Gourmet Series delivers a smart and innova- tive space saving solution," says Drutis. "This collec- tion will allow consumers to rethink the daily work in the kitchen and to enable all the kitchen prep work to move directly to the kitchen sink." The hand-fabricated, 15-degree radius sink from Novanni Stainless Inc. is a popular model for 2016. "Everybody wants those smooth, sleek lines – it's trendy right now," says Holly Skogstad, marketing co-ordi- nator. "Our JEF1831D9U unit is made from 18-gauge stainless steel and is more durable than 20-gauge mate- rial. Since this sink first came to the market the price has come down and now fits most budgets." For other design needs, Skogstad says the JEFSR- 2031D9U model has options that differ from an equal double sink with a larger left sink and a smaller right sink. "I would say 65 per cent of people who put a stain- less sink in their house pick the double, but there are people who like having the big/little version because we all have dishwashers now," explains Skogstad. Bradley Corporation introduced the Express ELX- Series Lavatory Series; a contemporary cost-effective alternative to china sinks and laminate counter tops. Its single bowl, multi-user design is easy to install and maintain, and its contoured styling and personal hand washing space elevates the look and functionality of commercial restrooms. "The Express ELX-Series is made of Bradley's Terreon Solid Surface Material that provides durability and is easy to specify, install, clean, maintain and repair," says Kris Alderson, senior mar- keting manager. "The bowl's seamless construction eliminates mould and delamination, offering a more hygienic washroom solution." Bradley also introduces the Verge LVS-Series to its line of elegant, sleek and refined Verge Lavatory Systems. "This unit is characterized by its elongated and modern design as well as its durability and low- maintenance features," Alderson says. Verge LVS-Series features individual drains, allowing multiple users per- sonalized hand-washing space while eliminating com- munal water concerns. All Verge Lavatories are made with Bradley's Evero Natural Quartz Material; the only molded natural quartz material available. Sustainable Solutions International (SSI) is going for long-term quality with products it distributes, fea- turing stylish designs that outlast trends. "While com- pletely appropriate for fashion, it can be dangerous to strive for trendiness when choosing kitchen and bath- room fixtures that for most people will be installed for many years," says Mona Winters, communications manager. "It is better to choose beautiful, quality work- manship in a shape, material and style that you will love today and 10 years from now, and change colours and materials around the units." One sink that would fit that bill is the Caroma Liano undermount – a timeless design featuring contem- porary square angles, slim walls and softened edges. "Great design for us means enduring quality and style," says Winters. "For example, our Liano undermount has been on the market for over 10 years and sales still con- tinue to grow. It offers beautiful shapes, angles and workmanship, whether using one in a small powder room or two in larger bathrooms." Eco-friendly Strawboard is the latest option for Andrew Sheret Limited and its retail line of show- rooms, Splashes Bath & Kitchen. "Products that are eco-friendly as well as strong and beautiful have been hot topics in our showrooms," says Eva Mitic, market- ing co-ordinator. "Companies like Ronbow are making bathroom vanities with highly renewable materials. The Strawboard vanities are a great alternative to tra- ditional density particle board builds."
