18 | DECEMBER 2015 speed up the drying process, Maxxon has introduced Level-Right Maxx. "Maxx can be a wear surface, not just an underlayment. It's faster drying than [stan- dard] Level-Right," Nicholson says. Another product designed to improve the per- formance of concrete is a crystalline waterproofing additive from Euclid Admixtures. "It's a powdered admixture that forms a crystalline structure within the concrete itself to prevent water passing through the concrete," says Brian Salazar, national business development manager at Euclid Canada Inc. Eucon Vandex AM-10 was introduced a couple of years ago and has grown in popularity, particularly on both coasts of Canada, Salazar says. It is suited for both above- and below-grade applications, water treatment facilities, building foundations, water containment structures and basements. It is also being used in pre- cast applications, including tunnel lining segments and underground utility vaults. Sawcut or joint-free flooring systems were intro- duced a few years ago by Tri-Con Concrete Finishing. They have the advantage of extending the lifespan of the floor as well as equipment moving on it. The price difference from a floor without this customized tech- nology "can range from 10 to 25 per cent, and is depen- dent on the load requirements and thicknesses. It also depends on what the quality of the 'standard' floor is," says Frank Guida, president at Tri-Con. State-of-the-art formwork products are also increas- ingly important, suggests Marius Minecan, a contracts manager at Structform International Ltd. "We use the latest systems from PERI, or Aluma, and mostly the lat- est iterations of their existing systems," he says.
