T
he Adams River has one of the
largest Sockeye salmon runs in
North America and every fourth
year is a "dominant" salmon
run. The Adams River return provides a huge
environmental boost to the surrounding eco-
system thanks to decaying salmon carcasses.
It also offers an economic boost thanks to
hundreds of thousands of tourists who come
from all over the world to Roderick Haig-
Brown Provincial Park for the Salute to
Sockeye Festival.
The 2014 return of Sockeye salmon
did not disappoint and I considered myself
fortunate to be on hand. This year was par-
ticularly special for me because I was there
to represent the Pacific Salmon Foundation
as the new chair of our board of directors.
The Foundation's support for the conserva-
tion of Adams River Sockeye and their habitats
is emblematic of how we make a difference.
In 2014 the Pacific Salmon Foundation was
proud to partner with Fisheries and Oceans
Canada, the Province of British Columbia
and a corporate donor, Rocky Mountaineer,
to provide the Adams River Salmon Society
with a $75,000 grant for educational kiosks
