realweddings.ca 35 When Sonia and Aman first met in 2004, the two quickly learned they shared much more than the same surname: Dhaliwal. Both Sikhs from Vancouver, they had attended the same high school, grad- uating a year apart and meeting through common friends. "I'd just gotten out of another relationship a few months earlier and found Sonia was someone I could always talk to," says Aman. e pair started spending time together right away, Sonia drawn to the polite, shy man who would later become her husband. Over the decade that followed, both knew that marriage was inevitable. But they decided to finish school and start their careers — Aman as a special education assistant and Sonia as a secondary school teacher — before they tied the knot.
