L
eavenworth shines brightly the first
three weekends in December when
the entire village is illuminated as
part of the Christmas Lighting Ceremony.
This is no drive-by spectacle; revellers fill
the village, nibbling on roasted chestnuts,
sledding in the park and listening to
carollers gathered in the town gazebo.
Multiple cultural events high-
light the season, including
handbell concerts and the
Bavarian Lantern Parade.

Leavenworth's Bavarian themes rise to a
crescendo during the Christkindlmarkt
(iciclevillage.com), an annual market held
the last weekend in November. Live music
plays continuously as children design
lanterns, vendors ply handcrafted items and
shoppers discover traditional German
wooden toys and keepsakes.
