Victoria, and to create an afternoon-tea menu, complete with nger sandwiches and hot and cold tea concoctions (some spiked), with Toque Catering. On the morning of May 10, 2014, Steven and Shannon each got ready at their family homes. Adhering to Burnside's "no heels on the bowling green" rule, the bride, stunning in a sashed Galina gown from David's Bridal, opted to walk down the outdoor aisle — marked by bowls, of course — in bare feet. "My bridesmaids did the same, and we thought the groomsmen would, too," she says. "But the guys showed up in Old Navy ip- ops, to our surprise." Two more members of the wedding party, however, went shoeless: the couple's Schnauzer, Obi- Wan Kenobi, and Chihuahua-Min Pin-cross Lulu, acted as ring bearers — and dressed the part, too. As Shannon began making her way toward her groom, Steven inserted one more playful touch into the day. "I held up my hand to stop her — as much as I didn't want to — and the music stopped," he says. "I went for a nal huddle with the groomsmen . . . they approved [the wedding], and all was good, so I returned back to my place and we continued on. When I nally got my rst look at Shannon full-on, I was left in awe." After the vows, liberally sprinkled with bowling analogies, had been read, and the union sealed with a kiss, the beaming newlyweds kicked o the afternoon reception by rolling two lawn bowls — one black, one white — back up the aisle. ey then retreated to the clubhouse with their guests for teatime refreshments, followed by a chocolate "swoop" cake that Shannon says was "to die for." But the long-awaited day didn't end there. Wanting to have an "open-invitation after-party so that we could celebrate with those who couldn't attend the ceremony," Shannon says the clubhouse was then transformed for the evening with "candles, drinks and dancing." "Everything went perfectly," Steven adds, smiling. "It couldn't have been more 'us.' Now, everyone in the family can say they've rolled a lawn bowl!" rw he Dea Team See our iPad issue for even more photos Though they also hosted a nighttime after-party, Shannon and Steven's daytime a air o ered something for everyone, including both hot tea and cold tea blends like berry tea with vodka. 50 real weddings / Photographer Taylor Roades Photography taylorroadesphotography.com Venue Burnside Lawn Bowling Club burnsidelbc.weebly.com Wedding Planner & Décor French Kiss Events frenchkissevents.ca Bride's Dress Galina, from David's Bridal davidsbridal.ca Hair & Makeup Sigma Squared Salon sigma2.ca Groom's Out t Harry Suits (custom) harrysuits.com Ring Bearer Out ts Amazon.ca HomeSense homesense.ca Stationery burnsidelbc.weebly.com Flowers Cartref Gardens islandfarmfresh.com/far/cartref- gardens Catering Toque Catering toquecatering.com Cake Pure Vanilla Bakery & Cafe facebook.com/purevanillabakery Of ciant Cathy Lavoie (Marriage Commissioner) 250-532-1925 Rentals Pedersen's Rentals (linens) pedersens.ca Scene About Town scene-about-town.com Simply Sunday Vintage China Rental simplysundayvintagechinarental.com Jewellery Aldo Accessories (necklace) aldoshoes.com Bride's Rings Cartwright Jewelers (engagement) cartwrightjewelers.com Peoples Jewellers (wedding) peoplesjewellers.com Groom's Wedding Ring WeddingRings.com
