the many benefi ts of doing business in your own backyard From reducing one's carbon footprint to following The 100-Mile Diet, the "buy local" movement is gaining traction among consumers. But what about among businesses? When it comes to sourcing goods and services, does it really pay off to favour local vendors? Rajinder Bagga, CEO of Everland Natural Foods, certainly thinks so. Bagga speaks passion- ately about the importance of Burnaby businesses supporting other Burnaby businesses. He points to the convenience of having vendors nearby, reduced transportation costs, and the greater control and quality assurance that comes from working with local vendors face to face. "Sometimes there is not a direct monetary benefi t, but [there] may be other benefi ts," says Bagga. "It's like a family thing – even if it's more expensive, it contributes to fraternity.
