wines and beers "taste suspiciously
subpar" ("Bottoms Up, B.C.," July '14).
Clearly the author has never had the
pleasure of consuming a quality craft-
made wine or beer product. Well-made
"homemade" products have many
advantages over commercially available
products—including signi cantly lower
levels of sulphites and sorbates—and are
consistently chosen ahead of commer-
cial wines in blind taste tests.
In fact, over the past 10 to 15 years
more and more commercial wine
producers are stealing a page from
our industry's book and using grape
juice concentrates to "improve" the
taste proiles of a wide selection of
table wines they produce. I invite the
author to experience the products she
so casually writes o as inferior before
coming to such an erroneous conclu-
sion and slandering the hundreds of
thousands of Canadians who choose to
make their own high-quality wine and
beer products rather than continue to
pay exorbitant taxes and markups to
the government monopoly liquor busi-
nesses.
