58 real weddings / He's being so rude, Kristine Parker thought with irritation. It was a Saturday night in Victoria in January 2013, and the 23-year-old was ghting a cold, so she'd asked her boyfriend, Matthew Hall, 24, to take her somewhere fun to cheer her up. ey'd gone dancing, but Matthew was ruining the evening by whispering covertly into his cellphone all night. Matthew's uncharacteristic behaviour continued on the drive home, when he suggested they pull over to take an impromptu walk. Together, the couple of one year trundled through a Victoria park where, in the wintry darkness, a distant tree stood oddly aglow. As they wandered closer, Kristine was awed to nd that its branches were illuminated with tealights. In the ickering glow, she noticed something else — the tree was decorated with twine, ribbons and photos of herself, Matthew and their friends and families. Equally impressive, a pot of chocolate fondue sat warm and ready for dipping. It was a magical setting in which to propose, and one that the future groom had plotted with a trio of cohorts — hence the evening's urry of phone calls. "By that point, we were both crying," remembers Kristine. "It was so meaningful because he included not just photos of us, but also all of our loved ones. ere were old pictures and new pictures, and it was just so symbolic of both our backgrounds coming together." ere was no question that Kristine would happily accept Matthew's proposal. Not only had she helped him design the engagement ring, but she admits to having blurted out, just ve months after they met: "I think I want to marry you!" ere was no question, either, about the type of wedding she would plan. "I've wanted an outdoor farm kind of wedding since I was a little girl," she explains. "I grew up on a farm, and it just reminds me of good times in my life." After weeks of searching, the Victoria couple nally found the perfect venue — Glenrosa Farm in nearby Metchosin. 58 58 58 real weddings / He's being so rude, Saturday night in Victoria in January 2013, and the 23-year-old was ghting a cold, so she'd asked her boyfriend, Matthew Hall, 24, to take her somewhere fun to cheer her up. ey'd gone dancing, but Matthew was ruining the evening by whispering covertly into his cellphone all night. he suggested they pull over to take an impromptu walk.
