"When we saw Furry Creek we fell in love with it right away, with its view of the oceans and mountain," admits Kim. "But we were also sold on Jill, the wed- ding coordinator at Furry Creek, who was just amaz- ing. It's largely thanks to her that we were able to plan the wedding so smoothly from a distance." e couple returned to Vancouver just fi ve days before their wedding, after several months of organizing vendors and making choices by phone, email and on Google Hangout. Kim brought with her the Vera Wang gown she'd purchased from David's Bridal in L.A., and the vows she and Grant had written to each other. e celebrations began on the Friday night at Kirin restaurant in Vancouver with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony for the family. On the day of the wedding, Furry Creek gleamed under the bright August sun- shine, as the couple and their guests got ready for the ceremony. Among Kim's fondest memories is that of her six bridesmaids praying for her, a touching moment that still fi lls her with warmth. In honour of his father's Scottish heritage, Grant wore his kilt for the outdoor ceremony and hired a bag- piper. As Kim's parents escorted her down the aisle and 145 guests looked on, Grant says he struggled to hide his emotions. "I was overcome, not just with her beauty, but with the fact that fi nally we were getting married," he says. "I'd known for several years that I wanted to marry her, but being a long-distance relationship, we never knew exactly where we'd land up." Kim had felt the temptation, as many brides do, to get sucked into the stress of planning the wedding, but she's grateful that she focused on its deeper meaning. "On the day we married I didn't pay attention to any of that stuff about colours and fl owers," she confesses. "It was the event itself, the moment and what it signifi ed and the people that were there that was important, because there was such a journey leading up to it. e emotional experience of our wedding and the memory of faces of loved ones is what stayed ingrained in my heart afterwards." rw the Dream Team See our iPad issue for even more photos p34-37_Kim+Grant.indd 37 14-04-17 11:31 AM
