54 real weddings spring/summer 2014 Holly says, offering a tip to future brides. "I ended up purchasing a similar but less-expensive Vera Wang and modifying it to look like 'Holly.' " "Mine was a cliché moment," Katie laughs. "It was the first dress I tried on." Holly finally saw her sweetheart's gown when Katie's father escorted her to the altar on a warm but slightly overcast day in June. "When I came out to my parents, my dad said he didn't care who I was with — his only wish was to walk me down the aisle someday," Katie says, adding that seeing Holly at the altar was "better than any feeling I could have ever imagined." e brides, who opted to hire a local stylist and officiant rather than have them travel from Vancouver, looked stunning. Katie wore her chocolate-brown locks in loose waves, while Holly's blonde tresses were braided and pinned back with jewels. After a mouthwatering dinner catered by Spirit Ridge, featuring wine pairings selected by Katie and Holly from the vineyard's own reserve, the brides danced to their favourite song, "I ought I Loved You en" by country crooner Brad Paisley. In fact, Holly had the first letter of each word in the song's title — ITILYT — engraved inside of Katie's engagement ring. "e lyrics have always been meaningful to us," Holly explains. "ey describe our relation- ship perfectly, from when we met to growing old together in the future." Katie adds, "It's hard to pick a single moment of the wedding that I liked best; I was just happy to be there with Holly. It's the same with our relationship — every day that we're together is the best day." rw Without knowing what the other would wear, Holly and Katie each chose a romantic flowing gown that perfectly suited their fresh and pretty white- themed wedding. The addition of pastel- coloured blooms and rustic DIY elements brought both colour and personality to their special day. p52-55_Holly+Katie.indd 54 14-04-17 1:07 PM
