courtesy Häfele canada Inc. and eKu aG 34/ february 2014 Paint & Coatings CIL paint on Canadian paint habits over the last year. The survey showed that neutrals accounted for 65 per cent of sales in the last 12 months. Of the neutral hues, grey was the most requested colour, followed by beige tones and whites. Greens and blues rounded out the survey totals. "While most people acknowledge using a more colourful shade can rejuvenate a room, when it comes to actual purchases, the majority appears to take a more conservative approach," says Alison Goldman, brand manager for CIL paint. "Neutrals like whites, beiges and greys are often preferred because they are safe, long-term investments that don't go out of style and don't compete with other objects in a room." Pratt & Lambert Paints created its inest interior paint, Accolade. Accolade Interior Paint + Primer delivers rich, deep hide through Pratt & Lambert's critically-acclaimed colour palette. "Pratt & Lambert has a hue called Sunspot from the Nature's Bounty palette," says Rachel Skaidas, CMG, Pratt & Lambert Paints assistant marketing designer – colour. "The colour celebrates an agrarian past and a sustainable, responsible future focused on inding harmony with the earth. This trend brings with it rich, honest colours representative of whole foods, plants and soil from the farm-to-table movement." Staying true to Pratt & Lambert's core promise of impeccable performance, Accolade goes on beautifully, offering painting professionals and their clients a smooth, sumptuous inish and a vibrant, long-lasting appearance for the home. Accolade's highly washable, 100 per cent acrylic formula is durable and easy to maintain for lawless results that last for years. It can be applied directly to most previously painted surfaces or uncoated drywall and carries a lifetime warranty for added conidence. Cloverdale Paint colours are shifting to an over- all lightening of colour moving from deeper tones to lighter values. "Environmental colours continue to dominate for the coming year with tans, neutrals and greens leading the pack," says Kevin Skelly, market- ing manager. "Greys also dominate on the neutral side of colour featuring more complex looking greys with various undertones. It is no longer just a pure grey on the white and black value scale." With the health of the consumer in mind, Cloverdale Paint continues to produce products that have mini- mal impact on the environment, thus abiding by the Environment Canada regulations for VOC emissions. "Years prior to the introduction of that legislation, Canadian paint companies had been working on low- ering VOC levels in their products as an industry moth- erhood project," says Skelly. "Cloverdale is no excep- tion. The level of VOCs in our architectural coatings have been formulated to comply with the regulations and moving further, seeking to achieve zero or near- zero VOC formulations. A product that its the criteria is our new Ecologic Washable Flat interior house paint, which is at less than two g/L (grams/litre) VOCs before the addition of colourants." The Coast Group has been working with Sansin Corporation to educate designers and contractors on products for both exterior and interior applications. "Foundation is one of Sansin's penetrating pre-inish products that are easy to use for both interior and exterior wood surfaces," says Gary Brown from the Coast Group. "It protects against discoloration and keeps the wood looking natural." Foundation features deep penetrating solids that increase the stability of the wood component. It provides natural water repellent that increases the resistance to moisture. "This product also creates superior UV protection for wood tissue but at the same time, is breathable," says Sjoerd Bos, VP, Sansin. "It is available in a neutral colour for stained top coats and cleans up with soap and water." The Sansin ENS Optimum Clear can be used as a clear inish over natural coloured undercoats or other exterior inishes and is available in clear, satin or gloss inishes. "It also works with other substrates including wood surfaces, ibreglass doors and furniture when a clear, transparent and character-enhancing wood inish is desired," says Bos. n Pratt & Lambert's Accolade Interior Paint + Primer.
