For instance, did you know a scooter is considered a pedestrian by law and is meant to be driven only on the sidewalk? Or that mobility scooters cannot travel faster than 10 kilometres per hour? Find out more by pick- ing up your Mobility Matters brochure at any CAA Service Centre or by downloading it from our website. And one last note while we're talking about personal mobility. The Winnipeg Sym- phony Orchestra is playing New York's Carnegie Hall in May 2014, and CAA Manitoba Travel has par tnered with them to bring Manitoba to Manhattan. If you are consid- ering joining us on this tour but have concerns about your personal mobility, Scootaround may be the solution for you. The scooter and wheelchair rental company has an exclusive o er for CAA members: receive 20 per cent off mobility equipment rentals booked before May 1, 2014. One call to Scootaround and they will make sure the perfect mobility device is wait- ing for you at your travel destination. For more information about this great mobility option while travelling , s e e pa ge 8 in this magazine. GP –Mike Mager President and CEO, CAA Manitoba Today's seniors are living – and driving – longer than ever. Here in Manitoba, senior citizens represent one of the fastest-growing driver segments. ere are certain things we expect to experience as we age, but one thing most of us forget to plan for is potentially giving up our car keys. Many seniors, along with their families, will struggle with this decision at some point in their older years. It's essential to make sure infor- mation, as well as transporta- tion alternatives, are available to help older drivers and their families make the tough call on when to stop driving. In recognition of this, CAA has pulled together exper t advice and resources into a new safety and mobility website – seniorsdriving.caa.ca. e practi- cal information and tools are designed to aid in assessing and maintaining safe driving skills, as well as to help kick-start early conversations between seniors and their loved ones about knowing when to adjust driving habits. CAA Manitoba also recently launched the Driving Angels Volunteer Recognition pro- gram to thank the thousands of motorists in the province who give their time to help seniors – who have chosen to give up their car keys – get to medical appointments, personal events and the grocery store. So far, more than 200 Manitobans have been nominated as Driving Angels, and we expect many more in the months ahead as seniors continue to nom- inate those drivers who've made a di erence in their lives (caamanitoba.com/drivingangels). is program also serves as a reminder to all Manitobans that more volunteer drivers are needed to ll the growing demand. Another transportation option to consider after you've given up the keys is a mobility scooter. Working with our partners, Transpor- tation Network Options for Seniors and the Manitoba Association of Seniors Centres, SPEAKER'S CORNER Online tools are available to help kick-start early conversations between seniors and their loved ones.
