Tipping Our Caps to History Did you know that Anheuser-Busch's famous Budweiser Clydesdales were originally purchased from the Shea brewing family of Manitoba in 1933? That's just one ale tale you'll glean from 300 Years of Beer: An Illustrated History of Brewing in Manitoba. Written by Winnipeg beer buffs Bill Wright and Dave Craig, the book follows our province's liquid amber path, from 1668 when New England sea captain Zachariah Gillam arrived in Hudson Bay with an official brewmaster in tow to today's local success stories such as Fort Garry/Two Rivers and Half Pints Brewing Co. As with past productions, this year's Not Any Clam Will Do is the result of community support – right up to the performers drawn from the Oakbank United Church's congregation. After supping on baron of beef with all the trimmings, theatre-goers can then feast their eyes on the 1920s murder mystery, on stage from January 16 to February 8, 2014. ℹ Between a Rock and the Olympics HURRY HARD TO the MTS Centre for the Roar of the Rings this winter. Catch the curling action to see which men's and women's curling squads will sweep their way into the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. From December 1-8, Winnipeg will be rocking as our country's best curlers battle it out for a chance to represent Canada on the world stage. ℹ mtscentre.ca/events/detail/tim-hortonsroar-of-the-rings oakbankdinnertheatre.com The Volts of Christmas Past SPARK YOUR IMAGINATION at the Manitoba Hydro Museum this holiday season. Living up to its name, the All That Glows exhibit follows the electric evolution of Christmas lighting from the 1880s to today. The only thing missing is the leg lamp made famous in the 1983 movie, A Christmas Story. From November 12, 2013, to January 9, 2014. ℹ (brewery) Great White North Brewerianists Club p14-15_HomeBase.indd 15 hydro.mb.ca/corporate/history/electrical_museum.shtml GOING PL ACES >> W I N T E R 2 0 1 3 15 13-10-16 9:20 AM
