Corrine Proctor and David Gedge September 8, 2012 The Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria - Love lawyers in Two legal eagles make it official in a fresh Vancouver Island ceremony filled with elegant classic details Written by Lauren Kramer Photographed by Kyoko Ferreira T hey were two B.C. students studying law at the University of Alberta in Edmonton when David Gedge and Corrine Proctor first met. She'd forgotten her chequebook after paying a university bill, and he chased after her to return it, already secretly smitten by the tall redhead. Neither could have imagined, back in September 2003, that nine years later they would become husband and wife. Back then, both were dating other people, and friendship was the only option between them. But there was always something more there, they confess, looking at each other knowingly. "David had a crush on me from the beginning — it was very obvious!" laughs Corrine. "I was definitely attracted to her physically," he admits. "There was an instant connection, right away and it was just so easy to be friends." A Saskatoon native, Corrine had grown up in Kamloops and attended UBC and the University of Victoria before heading to law school. Hailing from North Vancouver, David had attended UVic at the same time as his future wife, even parking daily in the same parking lot. But it took Edmonton, and law school, to bring the couple together. "There was always something about David," Corrine admits. "I thought he was very handsome, with his beautiful blue eyes, and though we were friends, I always liked him a bit more than that. I knew that if there was a chance, I'd want to date him." By their third year of law school, the friendship had moved firmly to romance. "We just gravitated towards each other," says David. But law school came to an end, and with its finale came their first separation as David signed up for a clerkship at the Supreme Court in Vancouver, while Corrine articled in Victoria. "There were lots of ferries, float planes and weekends back and forth over the next two years," recalls Corrine. "I realweddings.ca p48-51_Corrine & David wedding.indd 49 49 13-09-23 11:17 AM
