Kohler's HydroRail Shower Column, courtesy BA Robinson. Cheviot's other cast iron product is the Carlton. "Like our Regal tub, the Carlton is slightly longer, but more importantly, it is deeper," says Amlani. "The Carlton is available in both a claw foot or pedestal base, however the pedestal style has become popular. Consumers want the quality of a cast iron tub combined with a modern look that its in with current styles." Duravit's OpenSpace folding shower, designed by EOOS of Austria, creates added space in urban bathroom settings. "The concept behind this is a very clever, simple adaptation of a full-size shower," says Tim Schroeder, president. "OpenSpace has a stylish pro ile that allows users to fold the shower doors in on themselves, hiding the valves and the shower head. It is also available with the DuraPlan lush-mounted acrylic shower tray to enhance the open space. For users who only use the shower area once or twice a day, the extra bathroom area is appreciated." An optional function of the doors is a full-length mirror. "It is a two-way mirror so you can see through it when you are in the shower, but you can't see into the shower area when the doors are closed." Moisture on the shower loor area can be an issue, but the situation is easily managed. "The area dries quickly, so while water is in the area immediately after the shower, it dissipates in short order, not unlike any standard acrylic tub or shower area," says Schroeder. Robinson Lighting & Bath continues to provide designers, contractors and homeowners with the latest products to create a spa-style home bathroom environment. "One of the latest options from Kohler is the HydroRail Shower Column," says Matt Robinson, business development manager. "This gives people the luxury of quickly transforming a dated system into a contemporary rain shower with the added extravagance of a hand shower. It can be installed with existing plumbing outside the wall, which helps keep costs low." A diverter at the bottom of the column adds to the ergonomic functionality. A slidebar bracket allows the bather to customize the water delivery height, ideal for those wanting to avoid wetting their hair, or for younger bathers. Also available through Robinson Lighting & Bath is the GrohFlex valve system for showers, which provides an option for cost savings and future usage changes. "For the design community, this product is good because it allows the homeowner the lexibility to make nimble decisions," says Robinson. "With the installation at rough-in stage, it is easy to upgrade from pressure balancing to thermostatic control without having to access behind the wall for adjustments." Drain options ESS, an expert designer and manufacturer of linear drainage systems, has further expanded its range of products with the development of Aqua Jewels. Inspired by the Easy Drain Modulo design, ESS has equipped the smaller traditional drain style with the patented TAF (Tile Adjustable Frame) system. "Aqua Jewels is a unique, streamlined and extremely ef icient product," says Vivyan Holzhaus, marketing and design for LuxSalon. "It is ideal for small bathrooms where space ef iciency is at a premium. Aqua Jewels offers unlimited design options, accessibility and comfort. The drain lange and factory-bonded membrane enables it to combine with modern waterproo ing systems guaranteeing a durable, fully waterproof construction." The Aqua Jewel Series is available in ive designs – Quattro, Linea, Linea design, XS Line and Delta. Each design comes in a variety of sizes and elegant grate inishes, and the grate is removable for easy cleaning. "In 2012, Easy Drain presented its high-tech, super-narrow XS Line," says Holzhaus. "The red dot institute recognized these special properties and XS Line Easy Drain was honoured with the red dot Design Award." ■ Proudly serving the Elevator Industry as Independent Consultants for New and Existing Buildings VERTECH Elevator Services Inc., Engineering & Consulting 723 - 602 Hastings St., Vancouver, BC V6B 1P2 E-mail: rdemeyer@vertechconsulting.com 42/ AUGUST 2012 p.40-43Bathtubs_Elevators.indd 42 Bathtubs and Showers 7/13/12 10:07 AM
