Judges' comments
Climbing a mountain before sunrise in the remote backcountry isn't
for the faint of heart, as Victor Liu explains: "I was hiking in the dark
with a headlamp, worrying about bears and cougars." Then there were
the mosquito bites. "I probably got more than a dozen bites while
shooting this image." But when Liu finally reached Nublet Point at
sunrise, his efforts paid off. "It was quite an adventure."
One instantly gets a sense of the
hike to get to this great vantage point,
coupled by shooting at the 'magic hour,'
when the sunlight is low and warm.

There's something heavenly about
this shot, plus there's a sense of fantasy;
excellently captured.
