speaker's corner House Here, House There? Love the "Canadian Gothic" photo and story (Spring 2013). We are from Turtle Lake and regularly travel Hwy. 3. We have been in a major debate because we are sure the photo is of the Fairholme house (which we have a photo of) on Hwy. 3. We ask everyone who comes to our house what they think, and almost go cross-eyed picking out the photos' details. The article says the house is in eastcentral Saskatchewan, but we are in the north. Could you please divulge the location? –Shannon Culver and Paul Hamm Turtle Lake Writer's response: I'm reluctant to end a debate that sounds like so much fun, but here goes: you are absolutely correct. I took the photo some time ago and, long story short, got the location wrong. –Dave Yanko Correction: In "Two Wheel Deal" (Automotive, Summer 2013), it was incorrectly noted that anyone with a standard driver's licence can operate a scooter during daytime within 100 kilometres of home. In fact, riders need to obtain a motorcycle learners permit by taking a written test. Thanks for the Memories D uring the past two years, I have had the distinct pleasure of serving as CAA Saskatchewan's chair of the board. My journey has certainly kept me in the driver's seat, while I've worked alongside a fine group of dedicated and professional board members. Our focus has and will always be on our loyal members. We are proud to state that CAA Saskatchewan serves more than 185,000 members, offering benefits and services through our non-profit motor club, travel and insurance agencies, and auto maintenance and repair facilities. CAA Saskatchewan also remains a strong advocate for motorists and travellers, supporting traffic safety and environmental programs and addressing public policy issues. At this time, I'd like to congratulate Barry Martin, incoming chair on the CAA Saskatchewan board. His experience and commitment are truly valued and appreciated. I also want to congratulate past CAA Saskatchewan board chair Dr. William Elliott, who was recently 6 Westworld p06-07_Spkrs_Crnr.indd 6 >> elected as chair of the CAA national board of directors. It oversees the CAA federation of 5.8 million members. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding travel opportunities that my wife, Rhonda, and I have enjoyed with CAA. The experts at the CAA Travel Agency took care of all the planning to make sure our holiday experiences were the best. In May, when we hosted the Chairman of the Board Cruise, we met many wonderful CAA Saskatchewan members on the Mediterranean Tapestry Tour on board the MS Nieuw Amsterdam. In June 2012, we boarded the MS Eurodam for the Gems of the Baltic tour, with ports of call in Copenhagen, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm and Berlin. The CAA Travel experience was fantastic, and I recommend that all members take the opportunity to book their trips with CAA Travel or WestWorld Tours. In closing, thank you for allowing me to serve you. I hope you and your family continue to enjoy the many benefits of your CAA membership. • –Ted Hillstead, Weyburn Chair of the Board fa l l 2 0 1 3 13-08-19 9:37 AM
